Top-Rope Climbing near you
Top-rope is the classic tall-wall setup: the rope runs from your harness up through an anchor at the top of the wall and back down to a belayer, who takes in slack as you climb and lowers you when you're done. It's how most people learn rope climbing — the rope catches you almost immediately if you slip, so it's the gentlest introduction to height. Expect the gym to check belay skills before letting you handle the rope yourself: bring a certified partner, take the gym's intro belay class (usually an hour or two), or ask about auto-belays and staff-belayed sessions in the meantime.
