Climbing gyms in San Francisco

San Francisco is Touchstone country: Mission Cliffs (the 1995 original) and Dogpatch Boulders are two of the most storied gyms in America, with Movement's SF location completing the big three. This is the strongest average-climber city in the country — the V4 warmup is real — but don't be intimidated; the intro infrastructure is equally serious. Fog outside, crimps inside, year-round.

What local climbers say

This place is just perfect! They maintain the holds really well and the facility itself is very clean. In addition, they frequently reset the walls to replace old climbs with new ones. They have a nice workout area as well for all your lifting needs!

Went here just twice while in town and had a great experience. For a relatively small space, they have an incredible amount of routes, equipment, weights, machines, hangboard area, cycle room, yoga studio, and on and on. Staff was all super friendly and helpful.

Top rope routes are very creative with interesting beta, there's a high concentration of 5.10a to 5.11d routes in this gym, so as an intermediate you'll never get bored. They have lots of hard routes too, but not a lot of dedicated lead routes. There are several cracks, one of which is actually adjustable.
