Auto-belays solve the two problems that keep people out of rope climbing: no partner and no certification. The device does the belayer's whole job — it takes up rope as you climb and lowers you at a gentle, constant speed the moment you let go or fall. You don't need to know how to belay, you don't need to find someone to hold your rope, and you don't need to schedule your session around anyone else.
