Plan your visit
- Day pass around $15 — check current rates; most gyms price gear rental separately and discount off-peak
- Gear rental available — the gym mentions rentals; shoes typically run ~$5–8 and a harness is often bundled with a ropes pass
- Waiver always required at climbing gyms — sign it online before you go to skip the front-desk line
- Belaying ropes gyms teach belaying or check your certification at the desk; bouldering and auto-belays need no partner and no belay test
- First timer? bouldering needs zero experience — rent shoes and walk in; staff will point you at the easiest problems
- Kids programs classes, camps, or youth teams mentioned — check the current schedule
- Yoga & fitness mentioned alongside the climbing — ask about the class schedule and what a pass includes
- Ages 0–12 — the gym's own stated range
- Memberships available — worth asking about if you'd climb more than a few times a month

What's inside
“Variety of routes for top rope and lead, decent size bouldering section.”
“I would suggest visiting this place for top roping over bouldering but it’s still a fun spot!”
“The downsides include no auto-belay, no free parking, and the sauna is colder than YMCA sauna, likely due to the temp sensor right above the heater.”
“Sauna is co-ed, unlike the other touchstone gyms which are in separate locker rooms.”

From the reviews
This was my first time visiting this gym, and overall, I had a good time. My only issue was how people would sit down on the ground near the back bouldering wall, despite the fact that the space is very narrow and creating a hazard for anyone climbing a nearby route.
The Studio Climbing in San Jose feels like home. Compared to Pacific Pipe, which has a more corporate, warehouse-style vibe, The Studio has a welcoming, community-driven atmosphere that makes you want to stay and hang out.
It's a nice gym. I just wish it was better ventilated cuz it does get quite hot. Also wish I had more variety for bouldering. It is a mostly top rope gym. Other than that my experience there has been really great. The routes are more fun than the ones I've seen at other gyms and that's probably thanks to the staff.
i had been dying to get into climbing but always found it a bit intimidating. the studio makes me feel welcome and provides a fantastic environment for beginners. the intro class taught me everything i needed to feel prepared to climb with partners. plenty of routes available to move up and challenge yourself.
