Indoor climbing wall with routes ranging from beginner to advanced, plus equipment rentals.
Plan your visit
- Day pass around $25 — check current rates; most gyms price gear rental separately and discount off-peak
- Gear rental nearly every climbing gym rents shoes (~$5–8 typical) and chalk; harness rental is often bundled with a ropes pass
- Waiver always required at climbing gyms — sign it online before you go to skip the front-desk line
- Belaying ropes gyms teach belaying or check your certification at the desk; bouldering and auto-belays need no partner and no belay test
- First timer? bouldering needs zero experience — rent shoes and walk in; staff will point you at the easiest problems
- Kids programs classes, camps, or youth teams mentioned — check the current schedule
- Yoga & fitness mentioned alongside the climbing — ask about the class schedule and what a pass includes
- Memberships available — worth asking about if you'd climb more than a few times a month

“Lead routes are very unapproachable for those getting into the sport, which is discouraging (the Madision Heights location is much better in this area).”

From the reviews
To the gym managers - please add downclimb holds!! This is major safety concern for certain climbs, especially for newer climbers. I'm a regular climber at this location. This gym has pros and cons but ultimately is a great resource to have in Ann Arbor.
Great routes, friendly instructors and staff. Can get busy, but still a good time! I am also a fan of the Madison Heights location.
A great local climbing gym with friendly & knowledgeable staff. It's a large facility with a large selection of climbing (bouldering, lead, top rope, auto belays...). They also have a nice pro shop & the staff is great with gear & training.
What an awesome spot! I've climbed at gyms all over the country, and this one is quite special. It's got a heart and soul that's apparent from the moment you walk in - a quality that is missing from every big corporate gym.
Kids classes & camps at Planet Rock
Reviews and the gym's own info mention kids programs at Planet Rock — climbing classes, school-break camps, or a youth team where kids learn technique from coaches instead of just scrambling around. Program schedules and age groups change each season, so check the current lineup before you plan around one.
