Plan your visit
- Day pass around $20 — check current rates; most gyms price gear rental separately and discount off-peak
- Gear rental nearly every climbing gym rents shoes (~$5–8 typical) and chalk; harness rental is often bundled with a ropes pass
- Waiver always required at climbing gyms — sign it online before you go to skip the front-desk line
- Belaying ropes gyms teach belaying or check your certification at the desk; bouldering and auto-belays need no partner and no belay test
- First timer? bouldering needs zero experience — rent shoes and walk in; staff will point you at the easiest problems
- Kids programs classes, camps, or youth teams mentioned — check the current schedule
- Yoga & fitness mentioned alongside the climbing — ask about the class schedule and what a pass includes
- Ages 6–12 — the gym's own stated range
- Memberships available — worth asking about if you'd climb more than a few times a month

“They have to check you off for top rope and lead belay, as all gyms do for new visitors.”
“They also have a great auto belay system for those who like to climb alone (like myself).”

From the reviews
I’ve come here several times and each time it’s great. They change the bouldering routes every month or so to keep it fun. The routes are challenging but very rewarding once completed. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
I want to preface this review by saying, the climbing here is great, starting with phenomenal routesetting. There were problems with very complex beta. There were about 7 or 8 that looked like fun multi-session projects. I sadly can't do that since I'm traveling.
In town for a visit and absolutely loved Climb So iLL!! Plenty of routes for all levels in bouldering and climbing. There are 6 auto-belays, 40+ climbing routes, and entire section separate for kids.
Really loved this gym. A great variety of routes with creativity and complexity. Most of the routes didn’t feel sandbagged. On a good day I’m a 5.12- climber and most of the routes were at or below my red point. The variety of routes felt attainable but still challenging.
Birthday parties at Climb So iLL at the Steel Shop
Climb So iLL at the Steel Shop hosts birthday parties — confirmed on their own site. Climbing parties come with staff who handle the harnesses and belaying, so parents can mostly watch. One thing that's different here: every guest needs a signed waiver — send the gym's waiver link to the other parents when you send invites, or check-in day gets slow. Packages, party rooms, and pricing change often, so check the current options and book ahead — weekend slots go fast at popular gyms.
Kids classes & camps at Climb So iLL at the Steel Shop
Reviews and the gym's own info mention kids programs at Climb So iLL at the Steel Shop — climbing classes, school-break camps, or a youth team where kids learn technique from coaches instead of just scrambling around. Program schedules and age groups change each season, so check the current lineup before you plan around one.
