  • Gear rental nearly every climbing gym rents shoes (~$5–8 typical) and chalk; harness rental is often bundled with a ropes pass
  • Waiver always required at climbing gyms — sign it online before you go to skip the front-desk line
  • First timer? bouldering needs zero experience — rent shoes and walk in; staff will point you at the easiest problems

From the reviews

Summit Recreation Center is a great place for the family including Senior Citizens. The gym has a cardio room, cable mechines, free weights, and aerobic classes. There is a childrens play room monitored by a staff member while you are in a fitness class or using one of the fitness facilites.

Great facility for the price. Employees are nice, good selection of equipment, and the place seems clean and well maintained. More cable machines and more space in the dumbbell area would be nice but it hasn’t been an issue the times I have visited.

Been off and on for years. Renewed membership a few weeks ago. Really taking advantage of all the services offered. Everything has been good. The kids love the rock climbing. I use the machines mostly but have taken a couple of classes which have been good.

Even though you can tell the building is older, they keep the facilities really clean and seem to update equipment well. The staff is always really nice and I love that the children’s area is stocked full of toys and also games and crafts, not only tv.
