What's inside
“I’ve never been bouldering before (tbh I’m a complete newbie at climbing), but I really enjoyed the vibe of the gym at Humboldt Park.”
“I liked the rest of the facility too, from the workout equipment to the yoga room, and esp the bathrooms.”
“Beyond the walls, the gym has everything you’d want for training: a moon board, campus rungs, a scatter board, and a well-equipped workout area to round out your session.”
What climbers say again and again
“I liked the rest of the facility too, from the workout equipment to the yoga room, and esp the bathrooms.”
“I feel like there's a lot of value in the membership — 5 locations and all open late on week days, new routes going up all the time, free member events throughout the month.”
“We came here as a group with some who already climb as a hobby and it was my first time.”
“Also, the staff are incredibly attentive and helpful and much more smiley than other location (which still means something to millennials like me, I guess).”
“the community at these gyms are welcoming, as i found it easy to talk to strangers about different routes and encourage eachother.”
From the reviews
We came here as a group with some who already climb as a hobby and it was my first time. Kate at the front desk was friendly and professional and completed my forms and completed the intro with a video with information about climbing. After signing a waiver and getting Climbing shoes it was time to get ready.
First time coming to this gym location for First Ascent and was really impressed ! To start, there is not an official parking lot but a good amount of street parking in the area. Attached a picture on the front door on good places to park.
Really fun bouldering gym - one of the best I've been to around the world. Plenty of problems, and super technical route settings - a lot of focus on foot work, tensioning, balance than just plain upper body. The grades are on the savage end, but you can really tell that the setters are good.
The First Ascent gym at Humboldt Park is nothing short of a sanctuary in the city. The lighting at 1400 in the afternoon was spectacular for indoor climbing. The staff was friendly and professional. I appreciate that the orientation video includes poc. Music choice was 🔥.
Birthday parties at First Ascent Humboldt Park
First Ascent Humboldt Park hosts birthday parties — confirmed on their own site. Climbing parties come with staff who handle the harnesses and belaying, so parents can mostly watch. One thing that's different here: every guest needs a signed waiver — send the gym's waiver link to the other parents when you send invites, or check-in day gets slow. Packages, party rooms, and pricing change often, so check the current options and book ahead — weekend slots go fast at popular gyms.
Kids classes & camps at First Ascent Humboldt Park
Reviews and the gym's own info mention kids programs at First Ascent Humboldt Park — climbing classes, school-break camps, or a youth team where kids learn technique from coaches instead of just scrambling around. Program schedules and age groups change each season, so check the current lineup before you plan around one.
