  • Gear rental nearly every climbing gym rents shoes (~$5–8 typical) and chalk; harness rental is often bundled with a ropes pass
  • Waiver always required at climbing gyms — sign it online before you go to skip the front-desk line
  • First timer? bouldering needs zero experience — rent shoes and walk in; staff will point you at the easiest problems
  • Kids programs classes, camps, or youth teams mentioned — check the current schedule
  • Yoga & fitness mentioned alongside the climbing — ask about the class schedule and what a pass includes

From the reviews

We came here as a group with some who already climb as a hobby and it was my first time. Kate at the front desk was friendly and professional and completed my forms and completed the intro with a video with information about climbing. After signing a waiver and getting Climbing shoes it was time to get ready.

First time coming to this gym location for First Ascent and was really impressed ! To start, there is not an official parking lot but a good amount of street parking in the area. Attached a picture on the front door on good places to park.

Really fun bouldering gym - one of the best I've been to around the world. Plenty of problems, and super technical route settings - a lot of focus on foot work, tensioning, balance than just plain upper body. The grades are on the savage end, but you can really tell that the setters are good.

The First Ascent gym at Humboldt Park is nothing short of a sanctuary in the city. The lighting at 1400 in the afternoon was spectacular for indoor climbing. The staff was friendly and professional. I appreciate that the orientation video includes poc. Music choice was 🔥.

Birthday parties at First Ascent Humboldt Park

First Ascent Humboldt Park hosts birthday parties — confirmed on their own site. Climbing parties come with staff who handle the harnesses and belaying, so parents can mostly watch. One thing that's different here: every guest needs a signed waiver — send the gym's waiver link to the other parents when you send invites, or check-in day gets slow. Packages, party rooms, and pricing change often, so check the current options and book ahead — weekend slots go fast at popular gyms.
